PROGRAMS OF STUDY > PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

The Pharmacy Technician Program is a 9 month program. The role of the Pharmacy Technician is to provide technical and clerical support to pharmacists in hospitals or in retail pharmacies. The pharmacy technician will measure, mix, package, label, and deliver drugs. Additionally, they maintain computerized lists of medications taken by patients and you ensure that the right drugs have been prescribed. The pharmacy technician will also look after home health-care products such as canes, vision aids, and hearing aids. CLASSES: Medical Terminology, Anatomy & Physiology, Pharmacy Technician Principles and Practice-Hospital/Retail, Dosage Calclulations.

 

Length: 6-9 Months, 3 semesters of 8 weeks each, Day/Time: 2 Nights/Week, 6pm-9/10pm, Externship: 200 Hours total (600 required per LA Pharmacy Board)

 

 

ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS:  

-Complete an Application ($30 registration fee) and meet with the Admissions officer

-Photo ID

-High School Diploma or GED

-Complete a La Board of Pharmacy work permit application

-State Criminal Background Check (from Baton Rouge to accompany work permit application)

-Immunization Records (MMR and TD and Hepatitis B Series)

-TB Test Results

-Drug Screen Results

-Physical Exam/Medical Clearance

-1st Semester Tuition Payment is due prior to start of class; 2nd Sememster Tuition due prior to 2nd semester, and 3rd/Final Semester tuition prior to 3rd semester.

-All new students must attend New Student Orientation and provide all required documents, prior to class start date.

 

TEXTBOOKS ARE NEEDED ON THE FIRST DAY OF CLASS:   

Each class requires a different textbook for that subject of study. Two classes are held per semester. 

 

UNIFORM:

Women: Red scrub set with white close toed shoes

Men: Black scrub set with white close toed shoes
